Antonio Barbieri exhibition opens at Palazzo Pretorio in Certaldo
The exhibition ‘La materia della vita’ (The Matter of Life) by artist Antonio Barbieri has opened at Palazzo Pretorio in Certaldo, Italy. Curated by Davide Sarchioni, the showcase explores the evolution, transformation, and future possibilities of living organisms through a blend of art and science.
The exhibition features eighteen new works that guide visitors from known biological mechanisms toward imagined future forms. Key pieces include a ten-meter phylogenetic tree representing the interconnectedness of life, various sculptures and scientific models, and ‘Protogenìa robotica’, a large plant-like automaton capable of reacting to environmental changes.
The works are designed to interact with the historical architecture and frescoes of Palazzo Pretorio. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open to the public until February 2027.
