Manchester United targets Antonio Conte to replace Michael Carrick

Manchester United is reportedly considering Antonio Conte as a potential replacement for manager Michael Carrick following a difficult start to the 2026-27 Premier League season. The club has secured only five points from its first five matches and was recently eliminated from the EFL Cup by Brighton & Hove Albion.

Reports suggest that Manchester United leadership has made initial contact with Conte’s representatives to gauge his availability. The Italian manager, who most recently led Napoli to a Serie A title, is currently a free agent. While some reports indicate the club is preparing for a potential change, others suggest that the board has no immediate plans to dismiss Carrick, provided performances improve.

Former player Gary Neville has noted the team’s lack of desire, warning that continued poor results could put Carrick in significant trouble. Conte’s previous experience in the Premier League with Chelsea and Tottenham makes him a primary candidate for the club's leadership, should INEOS decide to pursue a radical change.
