Manchester United manager Michael Carrick faces pressure amid poor form

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is facing intense scrutiny following a poor start to the 2026/27 season, with the club securing only six points from their opening six Premier League matches. The pressure is compounded by internal friction, notably after defender Lisandro Martínez criticized the club's transfer strategy and management, specifically targeting Director of Football Jason Wilcox. While Martínez has since apologized, the incident has highlighted concerns regarding squad depth.

Reports indicate that Carrick’s position is becoming “precarious” as the team struggles in both the Premier League and the Champions League. While INEOS management reportedly continues to support Carrick for the immediate future, rumors regarding potential replacements have surfaced. Antonio Conte has expressed interest in the role, and other candidates like Fabian Hurzeler have been linked to the vacancy.

In response to the squad's performance and internal critiques, Carrick has indicated that the club will look to strengthen the team during the January transfer window, focusing on defensive areas to address current shortcomings.
