Antonio Cruz Jiminián to build terminal illness center in Dominican Republic

Philanthropist Dr. Antonio Cruz Jiminián has announced plans to build a specialized hospital for terminally ill patients in the Dominican Republic. The initiative aims to address a critical gap in the national healthcare system, where he claims more than 100 patients are discharged daily to die at home in deplorable conditions without access to essential pain relief, oxygen, or medical support.

The proposed facility in Manoguayabo will feature small individual cabins equipped with kitchens and living areas, allowing family members to stay with patients. The center is intended to provide medical care, sedatives, and oxygen to ensure patients can pass away with dignity, regardless of whether they have health insurance.

To support the project, the government has provided a 20-year land lease in Manoguayabo and a promised donation of $100,000. Dr. Cruz Jiminián is also seeking sponsorship for individual patients and has reportedly engaged with approximately 20 business leaders who have expressed interest in assisting the cause.
