Antonio Garamendi to begin third term as CEOE president

Antonio Garamendi is set to begin a third consecutive term as president of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) on October 1. Following the close of the candidacy period on Monday, no alternative lists were submitted, making Garamendi the sole candidate for the position.

Under the organization's statutes, the lack of opposition means Garamendi will be proclaimed president by acclamation without the need for a formal vote during the electoral assembly. His path to a third term was facilitated by a 2023 internal rule change that removed the previous two-term limit established by his predecessor, Juan Rosell.

Garamendi, who has led the employer group since 2018, has secured broad support from various territorial and sectoral organizations, including business groups from Madrid, Catalonia, and the Basque Country. His leadership has previously navigated significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and major labor reforms.
