Antonio Guiteras plant repairs extended after economizer leak

Repairs at the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant in Cuba have been extended following the detection of a leak in the economizer during a hydraulic test. The leak, which appeared after testing the efficacy of previous repairs, has forced technicians to design a new intervention strategy to address the defect.

Román Pérez Castañeda, the plant's general director, stated that officials are studying different methods to access and fix the damage, which may require more than just replacing a section of pipe and welding. Workers from the plant and the Maintenance Company for Electric Plants (EMCE) are working continuously to minimize downtime.

The Guiteras plant is one of the most important units in Cuba's National Electric System (SEN). Its continued absence from the grid has exacerbated the country's energy deficit and contributed to prolonged power outages, particularly in the Matanzas province and other regions.
