Antonio Ingroia joins Ismaele La Vardera’s Controcorrente movement
Former magistrate Antonio Ingroia has joined Controcorrente, a centrist movement led by journalist and Sicilian regional councilor Ismaele La Vardera. The announcement was made following the movement’s ‘Stati Generali’ held in Agrigento on September 5 and 6.
Ingroia, who previously served as an anti-mafia prosecutor and commissioner in Sicily, stated that his decision is based on a shared vision where legality is a “non-negotiable” central element. He intends to apply his experience in defending the Constitution to support the movement’s goals for both Sicily and the national level.
While joining Controcorrente, Ingroia will maintain his current roles as president of the national political movement Azione Civile and the Fondazione Spazio Legalità. Meanwhile, La Vardera reaffirmed his commitment to his political project, noting that he has declined various offers for ministerial or parliamentary positions to focus on his regional ambitions.
