Antonio Maria Rinaldi calls for productivity gains to raise Italian wages

Antonio Maria Rinaldi, head of the economy department for Futuro Nazionale, argued at the IX Confintesa Confederale meeting that increasing productivity is essential to raising wages in Italy. He characterized reducing the tax wedge as a mere palliative, suggesting that the focus should instead be on 'filling the glass' through structural improvements.

Rinaldi highlighted that Italy lags significantly behind its European partners; OECD data shows real wages in Italy have risen only 2.3% over the last thirty years, compared to over 27% in France and nearly 24% in Germany. To address this, he proposed several measures, including enhanced personnel training, increasing technological levels within companies, reducing bureaucracy, and providing more direct, lower-cost financing.

Additionally, Rinaldi expressed support for Confindustria’s proposal to move toward more personalized collective agreements tailored to specific company needs, viewing this as a way to boost productivity and subsequently worker salaries.
