Antonio Marte proposes Dominican Republic health and pension reforms

Senator Antonio Marte, leader of the Primero la Gente (PPG) party, has announced plans to submit a legislative proposal to the Dominican Republic's National Congress to reform the country's health and social security laws (Laws 42-01 and 87-01).

The proposed health reforms aim to expand medical coverage and the range of available services, specifically addressing gaps in access to specialists and complex surgeries. Additionally, the plan suggests making the annual RD$8,000 limit for medications cumulative, allowing workers to use unused balances from previous years.

Regarding pensions, the proposal seeks to reform the system managed by Pension Fund Administrators (AFPs). A central component of the plan involves redirecting a portion of the RD$1.068 trillion held in pension funds toward the creation of large-scale agro-industrial companies and businesses owned by the workers themselves. This measure is intended to stimulate national production, increase the GDP, and generate mass employment.
