Antonio Miloshoski Calls Demography Macedonia’s New Battle on Republic Day

Deputy President of the Macedonian Assembly Antonio Miloshoski addressed the Republic Day ceremony in Krusevo on 2 August. He urged the audience to view demographic decline as the nation’s foremost challenge, stressing the need to create families and raise children.

Miloshoski highlighted that towns such as Krusevo, Prilep, Struga, Strumica, Debar and the capital Skopje now have far fewer newborns than in previous decades. He linked the issue to national identity, warning that empty schools and dwindling speakers of Macedonian could undermine the state’s future. The speech also recalled the legacy of revolutionary hero Pitu Guli, portraying his sacrifice as a call to protect families and the nation’s heritage.

The deputy president called for collective responsibility beyond any single party or mandate, urging citizens to support family‑building measures, childcare, and investment in schools and community facilities.
