Antonio Narro University faces high demand and rector election

The Universidad Autónoma Agraria Antonio Narro (UAAAN) is facing a significant surge in demand, with over 6,000 applicants seeking admission this year. Despite increasing its capacity by 17% to admit 1,600 students, the institution was unable to accommodate thousands of applicants. Rector Alberto Flores Olivas noted that applications have more than doubled since 2022, when the university received approximately 2,800 applicants. To address this, the university is considering hybrid education models and implementing two-shift schedules to better utilize existing infrastructure and resources.

Separately, the process to select a new rector is moving forward according to schedule. Six candidates have been approved to compete for the position. The Board of Directors is expected to propose either a single candidate or a shortlist of three on October 8, 2026. Following university council approval, the final vote by the university community is scheduled for October 27, 2026.
