Antonio Oseguera Cervantes seeks clemency ahead of US sentencing

Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “Tony Montana” and the brother of CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” has requested leniency from a US federal judge prior to his sentencing. In a letter addressed to Judge Beryl A. Howell, Oseguera Cervantes expressed remorse for his criminal actions and requested that the court consider his age, nearing 70, and his chronic health conditions.

The defense filed a memorandum requesting a 20-year prison sentence, following a recommendation from the US Probation Office. This is lower than the 30-year sentence sought by prosecutors. Oseguera Cervantes previously pleaded guilty on July 31, 2026, to charges involving conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as firearm offenses related to CJNG operations.

Oseguera Cervantes, currently held in Alexandria, Virginia, under Special Administrative Measures, expressed a fear of dying in prison away from his family. His legal team has requested that he be assigned to a federal medical correctional facility to address his deteriorating physical and emotional health.
