Antonio Pinedo Cornejo detained at Ciudad Juárez border crossing
Antonio Pinedo Cornejo, the former social communication coordinator for the previous state government, was detained for three hours at the Santa Fe International Bridge in Ciudad Juárez while attempting to cross into El Paso, Texas. The detention was triggered by a migration alert linked to judicial records from 2020.
Anti-corruption Prosecutor Abelardo Valenzuela stated that there are currently no active arrest warrants for Pinedo. He explained that Pinedo has entered into an 'opportunity criterion' due to his collaboration with the Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office in other investigations. However, Valenzuela noted that the two ongoing investigations remain open and that pretrial detention could potentially be reapplied in the future.
Following information verification between Mexican and U.S. authorities, Pinedo was released and allowed to continue his transit to the United States.
