Antonio Sanz Reshapes Andalusia Health Ministry, Emphasizing Technical Leadership
A crisis over the breast‑cancer screening programme, which miscommunicated results for about 2,000 women, forced the resignation of health minister Rocío Hernández and triggered a broader reshuffle of the Andalusian health administration. Antonio Sanz, who already holds the regional presidency, assumed interim health responsibilities and has now formalised a new structure that separates political direction from day‑to‑day technical management.
Key changes include the abolition of the Secretariat of Research, Innovation and Digital Health, with its duties redistributed to newly created specialised units. Technical experts such as pediatrician David Moreno Pérez have been appointed to senior roles – he becomes secretary general of Public Health and Promotion – while other senior technocrats are also being placed in charge of specific health areas.
