Antonio Tajani proposes including CDP in financial sector budget contribution

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has proposed that the financial sector's contribution to the government's budget maneuver should involve a broad range of entities. Speaking at the “Welfare, Italia” Forum in Rome, Tajani suggested that the contribution should extend beyond banks and insurance companies to include Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP).

The government is currently working on the distribution of approximately 5 billion euros, a figure referenced in the programmatic budget document. While the specific criteria and the exact economic weight for each entity have not yet been determined, Tajani emphasized that the goal is to define how this contribution will be shared across the sector.

Tajani expressed opposition to extraordinary taxes on excess profits, arguing that such profits do not exist. He also stated that the government should avoid punitive measures against the banking and insurance systems, specifically highlighting the need to protect smaller institutions, such as cooperative banks and local credit institutions, which are vital for financing families and small businesses.
