Antonio Vergara denies rumors of playing for Mexico

Rumors suggesting that Napoli midfielder Antonio Vergara could play for the Mexico national team have been debunked. The speculation, which gained traction on social media, originated from comments made during an ESPN broadcast regarding the player's potential Mexican ancestry.

Vergara's agent, Mario Giuffredi, has explicitly denied the reports, stating that the news is “totally false” and confirming that the 23-year-old intends to represent Italy. The player was born in Frattaminore, Italy, and has already participated in call-ups for the Italian Under-19 squad.

Journalists in Italy, including Nicolò Schira, have also clarified that there have been no contacts between the player and the Mexican Football Federation regarding naturalization. Instead, reports indicate Vergara is being considered for the Italian senior national team.
