Antonis Panoutsos remains in intensive care following West Nile virus infection

Greek journalist Antonis Panoutsos has been in intensive care at Evangelismos Hospital for 35 days following a severe infection from the West Nile virus. His condition became critical after experiencing high fever and a septic episode, leading to his ICU admission on July 19. Medical reports indicate that complications, including encephalitis, may have been exacerbated by a weakened physical state at the time of the mosquito bite.

Colleagues and friends have expressed their support for the veteran sports journalist. Antonis Karpetopoulos, a long-time collaborator, shared a message on social media asking for respect for Panoutsos as he fights for his life. Panoutsos is a well-known figure in Greek sports journalism and previously ran for office with New Democracy in 2019.
