Greek singer Antonis Remos has addressed the controversy surrounding the placement of a massive concert stage in front of the Alexander the Great Statue in Thessaloniki. The stage, erected for his 30th-anniversary celebration, has drawn criticism from residents who argue that the structure obscures one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
Remos stated in a press conference that the decision to use the waterfront location was made to avoid the city-wide traffic paralysis that would have resulted from using Aristotelous Square. He emphasized that the plans were fully coordinated with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and Mayor Stelios Angelidis. The singer expressed his desire to avoid division, noting that the scale of the production is intended to showcase Thessaloniki’s capacity to host major international events.
The free concert is expected to feature various artists, including Ronaldinho, who will perform percussion. While some local figures have criticized the visual impact on the monument, others have defended the event as a significant cultural moment for the city.
