Antonis Remos concert in Thessaloniki sparks monument controversy

Greek singer Antonis Remos is preparing for a large-scale anniversary concert in Thessaloniki on September 12 to celebrate 30 years in music. The event, which will be free to the public, has sparked local controversy regarding the placement of the massive stage near the Alexander the Great Statue at the city's waterfront.

Following public backlash and social media criticism that the stage setup obscured the historic monument, the Municipality of Thessaloniki requested an immediate technical reassessment. Deputy Mayor Giorgos Dimarelos stated that the goal is to ensure the statue remains visible and prominent. In response, the production company, Galaxias Live Productions, assured the public that measures are in place to protect the monument and that special lighting and technology will be used to highlight it.

Amidst the debate, presenter Maria Bekatorou expressed her support for Remos on social media, suggesting that people should not look for insults where none exist. In recent interviews, Remos has also reflected on his career milestones and personal connections, including a meeting with the mother of the late Pantelis Pantelidis to resolve past misunderstandings.
