Antonis Samaras attacks Alexis Tsipras, warns of political turmoil

Former Greek prime minister Antonis Samaras criticised Alexis Tsipras, accusing him of remaining unchanged whether in SYRIZA or ELAS and of supporting the “Pontic cable” as a single‑handed Greek action. Samaras also denounced the Prespes agreement as “unacceptable” and said the only “calm waters” in the region are between Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Tsipras.

Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis responded, stating that if Samaras were to form a new party it would “justify his removal.” Marinakis defended the ruling New Democracy, rejected accusations of political violence, and linked Samaras’ remarks to recent arson attacks in Thessaloniki, emphasizing the need for democratic stability ahead of the next election cycle.
