Antonis Samaras criticizes Greek government and North Macedonia policy

Former Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has drawn significant attention following a social media interaction and public criticisms regarding national policy and governance. Samaras recently posted a video on Instagram criticizing the current government and the President of the European Commission regarding the handling of the North Macedonia naming issue and Greek-Bulgarian relations. The post gained unexpected traction after Kimberly Guilfoyle ‘liked’ the content, sparking discussions within political circles.

Speaking at a conference organized by the newspaper Vima, Samaras also issued a warning regarding the state of democracy and the country's future. He criticized what he termed ‘neoliberal management,’ arguing that current leadership focuses on maintaining power rather than addressing systemic issues. He warned of a dangerous complacency, specifically mentioning Thrace, and noted that public disillusionment was evident in the low voter turnout during the 2024 European elections. Despite the political friction, the U.S. Embassy has stated that diplomatic relations with the Greek government remain at an excellent level.
