Antorcha Campesina accuses Oaxaca government of political persecution
The national leadership of the Antorcha Campesina movement has accused the Oaxaca state government of political persecution and failing to address community demands. Homero Aguirre Enríquez, the movement's national spokesperson, reported that a scheduled meeting with the state Secretary of Government, Jesús Romero, failed to take place despite an agreement brokered by the federal Ministry of the Interior.
Antorcha Campesina representatives alleged that the state government, led by Governor Salomón Jara Cruz, has ignored critical needs such as potable water, electrification, and public services. The group also demanded the restitution of student shelters in Miahuatlán and Oaxaca de Juárez, claiming they were stripped from students. Furthermore, they alleged that funds intended for the construction of these spaces were misappropriated during previous Morena administrations.
Due to the lack of response from state authorities, the movement stated they intend to seek intervention from President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace and may organize further mobilizations.
