Antwerp launches low‑temperature checks to cut heating energy use in apartments

The city of Antwerp has issued a project call for “low‑temperature checks” in apartment buildings with at least 20 units. The initiative aims to optimise boiler settings so that water temperatures can be reduced without compromising comfort, which could lower energy consumption by up to 25%. It supports the city’s Climate Plan 2030, which seeks a shift from fossil fuels to sustainable heat sources such as district heating networks and collective heat pumps.

Applicants – building syndics, owners, co‑ownership associations and heating companies – can receive up to 80% of project costs from the municipal Climate Fund. Information sessions are scheduled for 23 June and 18 August, and project dossiers can be submitted until 30 September. “What if a simple intervention could save up to 25% energy in apartment buildings? Well, then we think of the planet and the pocket of the Antwerp citizen,” said Environment Alderman Karim Bachar.
