Anuar Azar proposes civilian gun rights in State of Mexico

Anuar Azar Figueroa, president of the PAN in the State of Mexico, has proposed organizing forums to discuss the legal possibility of allowing civilians to carry firearms for self-defense. The proposal follows a violent mass murder in Atizapán de Zaragoza, where four people—including musician Jonathan Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter, and a domestic worker—were killed.

Azar stated that the severity of such crimes suggests that human justice is insufficient and that citizens should not remain defenseless against increasingly ruthless crime. He intends to consult with experts, victims, and specialists to analyze the viability of legalizing firearm possession for individuals who meet specific legal, physical, and psychological requirements.

Two suspects, identified as Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N”, have been formally charged in connection with the killings. Investigators from the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office indicated the motive for the crime was the theft of a cold wallet containing cryptocurrency.
