Anura Kumara Dissanayake vows zero tolerance for corruption
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has declared a zero-tolerance policy regarding corruption, stating that no individual, including his own family members, will be exempt from legal accountability. Speaking at a farmers' rally in Polonnaruwa, Dissanayake emphasized that the law will apply to everyone regardless of political or familial connections.
The President specifically addressed the Rajapaksa family and ongoing corruption investigations. He criticized those who have allegedly stolen public funds, noting that personal connections should not provide a shield against prosecution. Dissanayake also commented on a political rally in Anuradhapura, suggesting it was being used by individuals facing corruption allegations to seek protection from the law.
These remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of political figures, including the arrest of SLPP National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in connection with an aircraft procurement investigation.
