Anurag Jain named CEO of India's NITI Aayog
The Union Government has appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Jain as the new Chief Executive Officer of the policy think‑tank NITI Aayog. The appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, will run for two years or until further orders. Jain, a 1989‑batch officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, previously served as Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Secretary and held senior positions in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
He succeeds Nidhi Chhibber, who was acting CEO after B. V. R. Subrahmanyam’s term ended in February 2026. The order states: “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Anurag Jain, IAS (MP:89) as Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog…”. Alongside Jain, economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri was appointed Vice‑Chairperson of the Aayog, underscoring a broader leadership reshuffle at the institution.
