Thai PM Anutin calls for UN reform and equal global voices

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, calling for significant reforms to the United Nations to restore global trust and ensure equitable participation. He emphasized that the international order must provide a stronger, clearer voice for the Global South to prevent the weakening of multilateral cooperation.

Anutin defined peace as requiring active engagement and constructive cooperation rather than just the absence of conflict. He advocated for peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms, specifically mentioning bilateral negotiations for border issues between Thailand and Cambodia and adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) for maritime delimitation.

Additionally, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s support for peace and reconciliation in Myanmar and called for peaceful approaches to the conflict in Palestine. He also highlighted Thailand’s collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to combat narcotics and online crime.
