Anutin denies rumors of Japanese manufacturers relocating from Thailand

Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has dismissed rumors regarding Japanese investors relocating their production bases away from Thailand. Speaking during an official visit to Australia and New Zealand, Anutin emphasized that the government remains committed to long-standing investors, particularly those from Japan, who have integrated deeply into the Thai industrial sector.

To support this transition, Anutin has instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas to review and revise electric vehicle (EV) promotion criteria. The goal is to address regulatory inconsistencies and ensure that traditional automotive manufacturers do not face unfair disadvantages as the industry shifts toward EVs. The government aims to create a fair structure that maintains investor confidence across all manufacturing origins.

Anutin noted that the automotive industry is vital to the economy, with many components such as engines, chassis, and systems already produced locally under Japanese brands. He highlighted that foreign direct investment in the first half of the year exceeded 530 billion baht, signaling continued confidence in Thailand's manufacturing capabilities.
