Anutin seeks special U.S. tax rates following regional security compliance

Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has indicated intentions to follow up with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding promised special tax rates for Thailand. This follows Thailand’s compliance with a joint statement with Cambodia involving landmine clearance, troop withdrawals, and the suppression of scammer networks.

Anutin noted that trade negotiations are nearing a final conclusion. He plans to discuss specific details with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthamphan on August 18. He expressed readiness to speak with the U.S. President to confirm if Thailand will receive the preferential tax treatment previously discussed.

Regarding a U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee request to investigate 28 individuals linked to Southeast Asian scam networks and human trafficking, Anutin addressed the inclusion of Worapak Thanyawong, a former Deputy Finance Minister. Anutin stated that those accused should hire legal counsel to clear their names and emphasized that the current administration has no involvement in the alleged activities.
