Anvisa approves Emrelis for advanced non-small cell lung cancer

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has approved Emrelis (telisotuzumab vedotin) for the treatment of adults with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The medication is specifically indicated for patients with non-squamous tumors that exhibit high c-Met protein overexpression and have previously received systemic therapy.

Emrelis utilizes antibody-drug conjugate technology. It works by selectively binding to the c-Met protein on the surface of tumor cells, allowing the complex to be internalized and release monomethyl auristatin E, which triggers targeted cell death.

Clinical studies showed an objective response rate of 29.2% in the total evaluated population. Among patients with high c-Met overexpression, the response rate reached 34.5%, which Anvisa noted provides a relevant clinical benefit in a therapeutic scenario where options are currently limited.
