Anvisa approves five new diabetes and obesity medication pens in Brazil

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has approved the registration of five new GLP-1 receptor agonist medication pens for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. This brings the total number of such pens approved by the agency in 2026 to 20.

The new medications include Aribet, Lyrza, and Wylovol, which are based on liraglutide. Aribet is indicated for diabetes, while Lyrza and Wylovol are intended for obesity treatment when combined with diet and exercise. Additionally, Embeltah and Sevema, which are based on semaglutide, have been approved for diabetes treatment.

The approved products involve several pharmaceutical companies with manufacturing roots in India. Farma Vision Importação e Exportação de Medicamentos holds the registrations for Aribet, Lyrza, and Wylovol, with manufacturing by Biocon. Embeltah is registered to Dr. Reddy’s Farmacêutica do Brasil, manufactured by OneSource Specialty, while Sevema is registered to Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos, also manufactured by OneSource Specialty.

Anvisa began prioritizing the analysis of semaglutide and liraglutide medications in August 2025. This decision followed a request from the Ministry of Health to support the Unified Health System (SUS) and ensure the supply of the national market.
