Anvisa approves weekly insulin and semaglutide injection for type 2 diabetes

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has approved the registration of Kyinsu, a weekly injectable medication designed to treat adults with type 2 diabetes. The drug, registered to Novo Nordisk, combines two active ingredients: insulin icodeca and semaglutide.

Kyinsu is the first product to offer a fixed-dose combination of a basal insulin and a GLP-1 receptor agonist in a single weekly application. The insulin icodeca acts as a long-acting basal insulin, while the semaglutide functions as a GLP-1 receptor agonist to help control blood glucose levels.

The treatment is intended for patients who have not achieved adequate glycemic control through other existing therapies. Medical professionals will determine suitability based on individual clinical conditions, often alongside lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise.
