Anvisa bans several food products and supplements in Brazil

The Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has issued multiple orders to suspend the sale, manufacture, and distribution of various food products and supplements due to safety and regulatory concerns.

Anvisa prohibited the sale of Bentô Gelatos Magnésio + Inositol Relief 3.0 popsicles because they contain melatonin and inositol, substances that have not been safety-evaluated for use in frozen treats. Additionally, the agency suspended the Body Strong Protein supplement by Equaliv, manufactured by Althaia S.A., due to the presence of peptistrong, a hydrolyzed fava bean protein lacking required safety assessments. This supplement was also flagged for making unauthorized therapeutic claims regarding muscle mass preservation.

In a separate action, Anvisa ordered the recall of KF Embutidos smoked pork sausage (batch 21/08/2026) after detecting Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The manufacturer, Fábrica de Embutidos Zanetti, has initiated a voluntary recall to mitigate the risk of listeriosis.

Furthermore, the agency suspended advertising for Glifit and Glicofit dietary supplements produced by Vita Nutriom Saúde & Bem Estar Ltda. The products were found to use deceptive marketing, claiming to regulate glucose and improve insulin sensitivity, which are prohibited therapeutic claims for supplements.
