Anvisa bans unregistered berberine products and seizes Soll*Q-75

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has ordered the seizure of all batches of the supplement Soll*Q-75 and prohibited the manufacture, distribution, and sale of berberine-based products that lack proper sanitary registration, notification, or enrollment in the country.

Anvisa identified irregularities in Soll*Q-75, produced by companies Método Quantumbio and Nattubras. Although marketed as Traditional Chinese Medicine, the product was sold directly to consumers without medical prescriptions and made unauthorized therapeutic claims regarding the treatment of metabolic disorders. Under Brazilian law, dietary supplements cannot be advertised as tools to prevent, treat, or cure diseases.

The agency also addressed the rise of berberine products marketed on social media as ‘natural Ozempic.’ Anvisa clarified that the prohibition specifically targets unregistered berberine formulations rather than the substance itself. The agency noted that berberine does not share the same molecule (semaglutide) or mechanism of action as the medication Ozempic, and international reviews suggest insufficient evidence to prove its efficacy for substantial weight loss.
