Anvisa orders recall of popsicles and supplements due to safety concerns

Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has ordered the recall of specific food and supplement products due to the use of ingredients without safety evaluations for their respective categories.

ABB Gelateria Ltda must recall Bentô Gelatos Magnésio + Inositol Relief 3.0 popsicles. The agency identified melatonin and inositol in the formula; while these substances are authorized for use in dietary supplements and certain liquid compounds, their safety for use in popsicles has not been assessed. Consequently, Anvisa has suspended the manufacture, sale, distribution, advertising, and consumption of the product.

Additionally, the agency ordered the recall of Equaliv's Body Strong Protein (cocoa flavor), manufactured by Althaia S.A. Indústria Farmacêutica. The supplement contains Peptistrong, a hydrolyzed fava bean protein that lacks a safety assessment for use in food products. All related commercial activities for this supplement have also been suspended.
