Anvisa clears Cristália's semaglutide weight‑loss pen produced in China

Brazilian pharmaceutical company Cristália received authorization from Anvisa to produce its semaglutide‑based weight‑loss pen at Livzon’s manufacturing plant in Guangdong, China. The Chinese facility, previously inspected by European regulators, was approved without objections. Cristália expects the Good Manufacturing Practices certificate and a final Anvisa registration decision within 60 days, aiming for market launch in Brazil by the fourth quarter of 2026. The company plans to transfer the production technology to Brazil starting in 2028.

Vice‑president of R&D Rogério Almeida said, “Our request is moving forward at Anvisa and we have responded to all their requests. The technicians approved the factory in China without reservations,” and added, “We chose a partner who had already begun development abroad; starting in Brazil would have delayed our registration timing.”
