Anvisa approves online sale of medicines on Shopee platform

The Brazilian health regulator Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (Anvisa) revoked the prohibition on selling medicines through the Shopee marketplace. The change, published in the Diário Oficial da União on 6 August 2026, implements Law No. 15.357, which also allows pharmacies and drugstores to operate inside supermarkets. Under the new rules, only licensed pharmacies and drugstores may list medicines on Shopee, and all sales must comply with existing sanitary regulations. Shopee will remain subject to inspection, and any illegal advertisements or sales can be removed and the responsible accounts blocked. The law requires a physically separated area for pharmacy operations in supermarkets and mandates the presence of a qualified pharmacist during all opening hours.
