Anvisa expands MenQuadfi meningitis vaccine use to infants

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has approved the expansion of the MenQuadfi vaccine indication to include infants as young as six weeks old. The conjugate vaccine is used to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y.

The decision follows clinical studies involving approximately 6,000 infants aged six weeks to 12 months and data from over 5,000 children who received booster doses after 12 months. Anvisa reported that the safety profile is consistent with existing meningococcal conjugate vaccines.

Additionally, Anvisa authorized the registration of Voraxaze (glucarpidase). This medication is intended for adults and children older than 28 days to help rapidly eliminate high, dangerous levels of methotrexate from the body, particularly for patients with kidney issues undergoing cancer treatment.
