Anvisa implements new medical prescription rules and cosmetic regulations

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has implemented several regulatory updates regarding medical prescriptions and consumer products.

A major update to the National Prescription Control System (SNCR) now allows for the electronic issuance of restricted medical prescriptions, including blue and yellow notifications, as well as control of antimicrobials and GLP-1 agonists. While digital options are expanding to increase transparency and security, paper prescriptions remain valid, and the transition to mandatory digital integration for white prescriptions will occur after October 30.

In consumer safety, Anvisa has banned the sale of several unauthorized cosmetics and cleaning products. This includes the recall of a specific batch of Hidrafemme vaginal gel due to counterfeiting, and the seizure of Perspirex Strong antiperspirant lots that used unauthorized company data. Additionally, the agency has suspended certain cleaning products from Ramos Indústria and LGR Indústria due to sanitary non-compliance.

Furthermore, Anvisa has approved a new regulatory framework for artisanal cosmetics, such as solid soaps and perfumes, allowing for simplified production and sale without traditional registration, provided they meet basic hygiene and labeling standards. The agency also issued a warning regarding unregistered hair pomades, advising consumers to verify product registration numbers to avoid health risks.
