Anvisa orders recall of NotCo Brasil protein drinks

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has ordered the immediate recall of all batches of NotShake Protein, a line of protein drinks produced by NotCo Brasil. The agency has also prohibited the manufacture, sale, distribution, advertising, and use of the products.

The measure affects four specific flavors: strawberry with date, vanilla with coconut, chocolate, and caramel coffee. Anvisa cited several irregularities, including the use of concentrated cabbage juice without sufficient evidence of meeting safety requirements for dietary supplements.

Additionally, the agency identified an improper product classification and noted that the company failed to notify Anvisa of the products as dietary supplements following a regulatory deadline on September 1. Anvisa also stated that the studies provided by NotCo were insufficient to prove product stability throughout the stated shelf life and flagged an irregularity regarding the “zero lactose” claim on the packaging.
