Anvisa partially interdicts Brasil Terminal Portuário in Santos
The Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has issued a partial interdiction of the Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) located in the Port of Santos, São Paulo. The decision, published in the Official Gazette, follows a routine risk-based inspection that identified sanitary irregularities.
Under the preventive measure, the terminal is prohibited from receiving and storing specific categories of cargo, including medicines, pharmaceutical inputs, medical materials sensitive to temperature variations, and substances subject to special control. Anvisa reported that the facility lacked adequate physical spaces to separate products with suspected quality issues or those already seized by authorities. Furthermore, the inspection found a lack of exclusive, locked, and restricted-access compartments required for controlled substances.
The interdiction aims to prevent risks to the safety and efficacy of medical products until the company regularizes its operations according to RDC No. 938/2024 and Ordinance No. 344/1998. While these specific storage activities are suspended, other operations at the BTP terminal continue to function normally. The company stated it has promptly addressed Anvisa’s guidance and that the terminal is operating normally.
