Anwar Gargash calls for Gulf-led security talks with Iran

Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates, has called for a new regional strategic vision that places Arab Gulf states at the center of security negotiations with Iran. Speaking in New York, Gargash argued that Gulf nations should not merely be recipients of Iranian attacks while Tehran conducts separate negotiations with the United States.

Gargash anticipates a period of prolonged conflict and instability within Iranian society as the country undergoes a leadership transition. He noted that Iran is entering a phase that differs from the last 37 years of rule under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Gargash expressed skepticism regarding the ability of the successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, to fill the void left by his predecessor.

Despite the predicted instability, the UAE official emphasized Abu Dhabi’s commitment to prioritizing diplomacy and establishing stable relations with its neighbor to prevent the region from moving continuously from one crisis to another.
