Anwar Ibrahim settles defamation suit and defends Malay royal institution

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has addressed several significant political and cultural developments. In a legal matter, Anwar and Pendang MP Awang Solahuddin Hashim have reached an amicable settlement in the High Court regarding a defamation lawsuit. Both parties agreed to withdraw the case without orders regarding costs, citing the importance of prioritizing national interests over litigation.

On the domestic front, Anwar criticized the actions of the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and state executive committee, labeling their challenges to the royal institution as ‘uncivilised’ and disrespectful. He reaffirmed the MADANI government’s commitment to upholding the Federal Constitution and protecting the position of the Malay Rulers.

During his working visit to China, Anwar also celebrated the Mandarin translation of his book, ‘Rethinking Ourselves: Justice, Reform, and Ignorance in Postnormal Times’. Published by World Affairs Press, the translation is intended to foster cultural exchange and deepen understanding between Malaysia and China.
