Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim signs CSA with opposition MPs

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced a Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) between the MADANI government and several opposition Members of Parliament, including six Bersatu MPs and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. The agreement is intended to bolster political stability and ensure the effective implementation of national development agendas, specifically the 2027 Budget.

In exchange for supporting the administration and the upcoming budget until the end of the parliamentary term, the participating MPs have requested specific institutional reforms. These include limiting the Prime Minister’s tenure and separating the roles of the Attorney-General and the Public Prosecutor before the current term concludes. The MPs also seek constituency development funds equivalent to those received by government backbenchers.

Anwar clarified that there are no specific conditions imposed on MPs to sign the CSA, noting that funds will be disbursed to those involved once the 2027 Budget receives Parliamentary approval. He described the agreement as a positive development and a common practice in other democracies, citing his own experience signing a similar agreement while serving as Leader of the Opposition in 2021.
