Anwar Ibrahim contacts Joko Widodo to express solidarity with Indonesia

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim contacted former Indonesian President Joko Widodo via telephone to express solidarity following recent volcanic disasters and haze challenges in Indonesia.

Joko Widodo was visiting Penang, Malaysia, to deliver a keynote speech at the Penang Peace Dialogue. Anwar Ibrahim apologized for being unable to meet the former president in person due to a prior commitment at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026, where he was scheduled to meet with farmers and the agro community.

During the call, Anwar emphasized the deep historical, cultural, and fraternal ties between Malaysia and Indonesia, noting that while leadership roles may change, the friendship and mutual respect between the two nations remain constant.
