Anwar Ibrahim prioritizes stability at PKR National Congress
During the 19th PKR National Congress held in Melaka, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized his commitment to political stability through continued cooperation with UMNO and Barisan Nasional at the Federal level. He stated that political decisions should prioritize national interest and economic growth over personal positions.
Addressing economic concerns, Anwar pledged to reduce bureaucracy for entrepreneurs, specifically mentioning land office processes and e-invoicing. He also noted that the government is reviewing social protections and welfare rates for gig workers.
Internal party dynamics were also a focus. DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke confirmed that nearly 90 percent of DAP delegates voted to remain in the ruling coalition. Meanwhile, Anwar defended PKR Vice-President Aminuddin Harun, arguing his experience is vital for mentoring new leaders despite recent electoral setbacks in Negeri Sembilan.
However, some party members expressed caution. Ahmad Danish Hairudin of AMK warned that PKR must not sacrifice its dignity or core interests for the sake of maintaining stability with UMNO. Additionally, representatives from Indonesia's Partai Ummat attended the congress to discuss political cooperation.
