Anwar Ibrahim highlights Malaysia-China friendship in meeting with Li Qiang

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim described Chinese Premier Li Qiang as a friend during a bilateral meeting held at the West Lake State Guest House in Hangzhou, China. Anwar highlighted the symbolic use of orchids, specifically Phalaenopsis, in Chinese diplomatic settings as a representation of the deep bond between the two nations.

Anwar referenced the Chinese term for orchid, ‘Lán Huā’, and the expression ‘Jīn Lán Zhī Jiāo’, which signifies a true, soul-deep friendship capable of weathering trials. Drawing from the classical text Yi Jing, he noted that when two people are of one mind, their strength is immense and their communication is as fragrant as an orchid.

Reflecting on the 52-year history of Malaysia-China relations, Anwar emphasized that the partnership extends beyond trade and diplomacy to include mutual respect and trust. He stated that the friendship must continue to be nurtured to ensure peace, prosperity, and well-being for the people of both countries.
