Anwar Ibrahim offers opposition MPs constituency allocations

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has stated that the Malaysian government is open to providing constituency development allocations to opposition Members of Parliament. He proposed utilizing a format similar to the September 2021 confidence and supply agreement, which ensured equal funding for government and opposition MPs in exchange for legislative support.

To facilitate this process, Anwar has appointed Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof to lead negotiations with opposition representatives. The Prime Minister indicated that once an agreement is signed, he is prepared to approve the allocations promptly.

Separately, Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Othman Said noted that the Parliamentary Service Council, established under the Parliamentary Service Act 2025, has the authority to discuss policy matters such as equal allocations, anti-hopping laws, and no-confidence motions. However, she did not commit to specific policy changes, stating the government would leave the direction of these matters to the council's discussion.
