Anwar Ibrahim emphasizes religious guidance and academic freedom

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized several key pillars for national development, focusing on religious guidance, social ethics, and academic freedom.

In discussions with religious scholars, including representatives from Darul Hadis al-Awwamiyyah, Anwar expressed a desire to listen to expert advice to guide the government’s efforts regarding Islam in Malaysia. He highlighted the importance of the relationship between leaders and scholars to address issues such as religious extremism and to ensure government initiatives are guided by knowledge.

Addressing social and moral issues, the Prime Minister called for an end to bullying in schools and urged the Muslim community to lead by example through integrity, hard work, and the rejection of corruption and drugs. He noted that the Malaysia MADANI development model must be supported by strong faith and character rather than relying solely on economic or technological progress.

Furthermore, Anwar advocated for greater academic freedom in higher education institutions. He stated that university students should be allowed to express their views and engage in critical thinking without facing disciplinary action for voicing criticisms, including those directed at the Prime Minister himself, provided they do not violate the law or disrupt public order.
