Anwar Ibrahim to chair high-level meeting on haze management
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to chair a meeting of the Central Disaster Management High-Level Committee (HLC) this Monday to address the escalating haze crisis. The meeting will focus on coordinating actions between ministries to manage the impact of haze on public health, school operations, and outdoor sports activities.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Youth and Sports will be involved in determining guidelines based on the National Haze Action Plan. The government is also reviewing the assistance and assets previously offered to Indonesia to ensure they meet the current needs as forest fires continue to spread.
Anwar Ibrahim has previously asserted that Malaysia has taken maximal efforts to address the transboundary haze, noting that he has communicated directly with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto regarding the situation. The haze has led to unhealthy air quality levels across multiple regions, resulting in school closures in Kuala Lumpur and several states.
